My answer to What does it feel like to live in an old age home?
Answer by Connie b. Dellobuono:
Some care homes have gourmet food, comfortable surroundings and care or assistance in daily living such as bathing, grooming, med management and more. Caregivers cook 3 meals and snacks and helps you in the middle of the night when you need help or be calmed down to go back to sleep. Emergencies are prevented in this caring environment. You are not alone. It is important that family members visit you and take care of you some Sundays.
I know one 95 yr old Alzheimer’s client is always visited by her daughter every other day and given massage by her. She still lives even when half of body cannot move anymore.
In this environment, you live with 5 other seniors and 2 caregivers.
In the first few weeks, many seniors are not happy with the situation but they then get used to it. There is less worry, when there is order. They are cared for 24/7 with meals and assistance in daily living.
