Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (May 1-31)
and
National Women’s Health Week (May 14-20)
In May, the CMS Office of Minority Health (OMH) recognizes two observances: Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (May 1-31) and National Women’s Health Week (May 14-20). For Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we pay tribute to the generations of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders who have enhanced our communities. During National Women’s Health Week, CMS OMH joins the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health in its efforts to help women take steps for better health. Listed below are some of the many ways individuals, organizations, and communities can join CMS OMH in its efforts to improve health equity for these groups and others.
- Better understand communication and language assistance needs of Medicare beneficiaries through the Understanding Communication and Language Needs of Medicare Beneficiaries report.
- Share the latest From Coverage to Care resources to help patients maximize their health coverage. Many C2C resources for consumers are available in multiple languages. A Roadmap to Better Care and a Healthier You, which explains what health coverage is and how to use it, is available in Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other languages.
- Download and share a From Coverage to Care flier that encourages women to take advantage of preventive services.
- Use the Office on Women’s Health social media toolkit and spread the word about National Women’s Health Week with the #NWHW hashtag.
