Descriptions of what’s happening at the U.S.-Mexico border sound like horrible exaggerations:
Families torn apart. Children sleeping, alone, on cement floors for days on end, their parents held in separate facilities hundreds of miles away. No way to communicate with each other and no way of knowing when – or if – they’ll be reunited. No access to lawyers, family, or basic comfort. All of this on American soil.
But it’s not an exaggeration. It’s the truth, and it’s monstrous. And it’s being done in our name – yours and mine.
You can stand up for the rights and dignity of these families by donating directly to the organizations helping them get legal representation and other critical assistance. My campaign will match $25,000 in contributions.
And, to be extra clear: these things aren’t just happening, Connie. The government that represents you and me has actively chosen to tear children out of their parents’ arms, hold them in detention centers in different states, and prevent them from communicating.
I refuse to look the other way while Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions tear families apart and disregard human rights in the name of the American people. This is not who we are.
