Today, I am driven to help create a web site and a mobile health application that will help health consumers get the benefits in advances in genetic tests and an online health concierge to help reduce chronic care costs and to age with grace and stronger health.
I will be collaborating with genetic counselors, regenerative medicine doctors and all specialists whose goal is to provide a healthy population with preventive care and use of genetic tests.
Imagine if we can effect health before cancer comes at stage 4, before we are incapacitated by aging and disease and to allow us to live with quality and play with our grandchildren.

Driven in part by the sequencing of the human genome, a project Dr. Collins helped lead, thousands of foundations are springing up and trying to do just that. The larger and more established ones, such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Spinal Muscular AtrophyFoundation, are investing millions not only in the search for specific cures but also for the biological tools and biomarkers any researcher or company could use.
Smaller charities like Ms. Clapp’s Fraxa Research Foundation are involved in efforts to fund research assistants who search university laboratories for projects biotechnicians could adopt and drive toward a cure.
“I talk to someone from a disease foundation every single day, and often several times in a day,” Dr. Christopher P. Austin, director of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences at the National Institutes of Health, said in an interview. “Fifteen years ago, I talked to them pretty close to never.”
Dr. Austin now views foundations as so important to research coordination and discovering cures that his center’s Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network will offer grants only to researchers who work with disease foundations.
“I will take a motivated mom over 10 scientists,” Dr. Austin said. “Some of these people are forces of nature.”
