Caring for home care clients with heart failure

Hypotension, anemia, poor kidney function, constipation, falls, and depression are key elements of some home care clients with heart failure in their 80s. Caregivers must be careful with medications and home care tasks. Showering should be short and must be monitored for hypotension. Elevating legs when hypotension occurs help, especially in the morning from 6am to 11am, when most heart failure episodes happen. Report to their doctors any signs of dizziness, depression, headaches and other health issues.

Recovery varies for each person, level of home care from caregivers are very important. Caring caregivers can impact client’s recovery. Fresh whole foods and adequate sleep are very important and so are regular contacts or visits from love ones.
