A conversation about public policy solutions to California’s long-term care crisis

Join the Alzheimer’s Association, American Medical Students Association CSU East Bay Chapter and local policymakers for a conversation about public policy solutions to California’s long-term care crisis, and the crucial role of Millennials as the well-trained eldercare workforce that California needs.

With special guest Congressman Eric Swalwell.

As California’s population ages, the number of elderly people needing long-term services and supports (e.g., a spectrum of health and social services that support elders or people with disabilities who need help with activities of daily living such as managing medication, housekeeping, eating, bathing and dressing) will soar.

However, as documented by the California Senate’s Select Committee on Aging and Long Term Care’s 2015 report, “A Shattered System,” California suffers from a “costly and fragmented ‘non’ system of long-term care services and supports [because it] has not made development of an efficient and effective long term care system a priority.”

Come participate in a dialogue with local policymakers about how the caregiving crisis affects you, and learn about programs and policies that can help, including Santa Clara County’s Age-Friendly Initiative, Alameda County’s proposed Council for Age-Friendly Communities, a permanent body that would be charged with coordinating efforts in the county to improve health and social outcomes for older adults, and Assemblyman Ash Kalra’s legislation (AB 806) to create a state tax credit for family caregivers of dependent adults.

Please RSVP for directions and parking information.
