US democracy is just OK, but there are no grounds for complacency. Know that the world is watching us, how we voted, where only half of the voting population voted during the last 2016 presidential election.
As my 20-yr old daughter who goes to San Jose State University replied when I asked why the election did not reflect the wishes of the majority. She said because many of the students in her school did not bother to vote. And now they are on the streets protesting. It is not too late, we have to forever be watchful of what is happening in our democracy. We do not want it to go back many years before where women cannot vote, cannot decide about their bodies and cannot hold high public positions/power.
I voted because I work two jobs, with no retirement savings in site as I send my two children to college and paying of expensive housing in the bay area. It costs me $7000 last year for a visit in the emergency room for a blood tests because of fast heart beat. I know many seniors in the bay area cared for in care homes who has to sell their two homes to pay for 24/7 senior care.
I saw people power in the Philippines. Whether we are repressed during the Marcos era or not, we waited for 25 years before we marched on the street. It is too late, the economy is not performing well.
To all American students, aspire more to reach higher goals, call and write to your local state officials about public policies, especially prevent the appointment of Stephen Bannon as chief strategist.

On Tuesday, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) christened Stephen Bannon, Donald Trump’s newly appointed chief strategist, the Democrats’ new number one enemy. In his speech from the Senate floor, Senator Reid called directly for Donald Trump to “rescind his appointment of Steve Bannon.” A number of other Democrats joined in the chorus, circulating a letter demanding that Bannon be removed from his position.

Remember that Bannon told Mother Jones in August that Breitbart is “the platform for the alt-right.” So when the site explains that “there are many things that separate the alternative right from old-school racist skinheads (to whom they are often idiotically compared),” the explanation reads a lot like a defense of a group in which Breitbart is a leading member.
Since Bannon identifies Breitbart as an alt-right news site, the question is whether the alt-right encompasses white nationalism, an ideology characterized by a belief that the United States’ identity as a nation built by white people (or “European Americans,” as David Duke euphemistically calls them) is under attack and must be restored. The answer is clearly yes.
