Does depression cause permanent brain damage?

My answer to Does depression cause permanent brain damage?

Answer by Connie b. Dellobuono:

I do not think it will damage the brain but long term, might lead to Alzheimer’s and/or Parkinsons.

Depression is the presence of painful feelings. Depression is one of the most common precursors to drug abuse and suicide. Depression often compromise the immune function, leaving people more prone to illness.
