After 24 people were killed in one week at two mass shootings in a Walmart, you would think the retail giant would do something about it.
You would think wrong.
Instead of stopping the sale of guns, Walmart has decided to stop the display of violent video games—parroting the outrageous talking points of Republicans politicians.
Outrageous. Sign the petition to Walmart: Stop selling guns & ammunition immediately.
Violent video games are not the cause of mass shootings. Otherwise, countries like Japan and South Korea—where violent video games are the norm—would have an epidemic of gun violence. But they do not because, unlike the United States, they heavily regulate guns.
Momentum is building against Walmart. The American Federation of Teachers isurging its members not to shop at Walmart, and some presidential candidates have joined the fray.
Walmart has taken action in the past after mass shootings, such as banning assault rifles in 2015—and raising the age of buying ammo from 18 to 21 after the Parkland shooting. Given that another heavily armed man walked into a Walmart mere days after the latest mass shootings (alarming other customers), you would think they should be taking action now.

On August 3, a white supremacist killed 22 people and wounded dozens more at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, just days after a Walmart employee killed two colleagues inside the chain’s Southaven, Mississippi store.
Despite two shootings that left 24 people dead within just five days, Walmart executives don’t have plans to stop selling guns anytime soon. Walmart is one of the country’s largest gun retailers, selling firearms and ammunition in half of its 4,750 U.S. stores. In states where it is legal to do so, Walmart also allows shoppers to open carry.
After the shooting in El Paso, Walmart offered “prayers,” but empty platitudes don’t create meaningful change.
Walmart has taken gradual measures to address its gun policies in recent years. It’s clear the retail giant is capable of change: it stopped selling assault rifles in 2015 and raised the minimum gun and ammunition purchasing age from 18 to 21 after the Parkland school shooting in 2018.
Now, Walmart needs to take the next step and stop selling guns and ammunition altogether. Simply raising the purchasing age and refusing to sell assault rifles is not enough to address gun violence.
Our message to Walmart:
