Research Goal: Generate new knowledge through research or to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that
– maximize the full inclusion and integration into society,
– employment,
– independent living,
– family support, and
– economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities.
Yesterday when I went to Whole Foods Store, I saw a store helper who works at the store with one of his arm cut off and sweeping the floor. He managed to insert the other side of the dustpan under his armpit. His cut off arm has about 5 inches more left. He is in his 40s.
I also met a court clerk who is a typist (using the old style court typewriter machine) and she is legally blind (with her dark glasses on). She has a dog helper with her. She got her 4-yrs of typing training after she reached the aged of 18, with the support from her parents and the community she lives in. She is in her 40s.
I have a co-worker in Taiwan who is a technical writer and goes to work with his leg braces on as he only have one leg.
I salute businesses who hires people with disabilities.
