Why do the majority of nursing home patients use wheelchairs or walkers to get around?

Why do the majority of nursing home patients use wheelchairs or walkers to get around? by Connie b. Dellobuono

Answer by Connie b. Dellobuono:

Most of the folks in nursing homes have issues with mobility from arthritis, diabetes, stroke, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other health issues related to aging. Fall prevention and support when walking make the walkers and wheel chairs important mobility devices. During the last stage of Alzheimer or Parkinson's, seniors cannot move their limbs that the caregivers have to assist them. Most caregivers feel like they are lifting a dead weight when moving seniors to their bed or wheel chairs. Some seniors can still eat and smile when stimulated with music or massage even when they cannot move their body without help from caregivers. Some families bring their love ones to care homes when they cannot care for them 24/7. Those who hire caregivers in their homes 24/7 must provide a room for caregivers and be able to spend between $200 to $300 for 24hr care with caregivers. 408-8541883 Motherhealth caregivers are trained to massage seniors and provide compassionate care in the bay area.
