Concerned with a dramatic rise in the prevalence of thyroid cancer over the past 30 years, a group of researchers wondered if the similarly increasing rate of obesity during the same period might be perhaps linked to it in some way — if not responsible for thyroid cancer. To determine if some association between the two existed, the researchers compared body fat distribution and weight change with thyroid cancer risk in the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study.
