How a homebirth mother and caregiver wrote an ebook about cancer

Cancerheal | Etsy

Twenty five years ago, I had my first homebirth with midwives in San Jose California. Now, I am training caregivers how to massage seniors who are bed ridden and dying of cancer. I incorporate holistic way of making them feel good or live longer in the last years of their lives with nutrition and other healing ways.  Because of my experience as a pharmacy technician instructor, I was able to match the care of each client based on their body and their set of medications.

I brought massage oils with essential oils (eucalyptus, rosemary, ginger, etc) and other home made remedies from ginger tea, hydrogen peroxide for mouth wash and body wash, apple cider vinegar, garlic and baking soda.  In all this, I learned that each age, ethnicity, marital status, stress, jobs, exposure to toxins from work and home affect the way we use nutrition, massage and healing ways. With the passing of both my mother and father from liver and lung cancer, I vowed to share with others lessons I learned in the past 40 years which contribute to their health decline.

Cancer started 40 years ago before my mom died at 83. I saw her toxic work environment, invading organisms in the well water, IUD infection and other contributing inflammation and stressors. I now know that cancer started from these stressors, bad microbes, lifestyle, age and inflammation. There are many more root causes and now we can arm ourselves to fight cancer and be cancer-free with a team of caregivers, loving family and friends and health care professionals.

Why I wanted to complete an MPH

Statement of Purpose

Connie Dello Buono, MPH (future), BS

Health Author

Quality Assurance in medical device and biotech companies in the USA

motherhealth@gmail.com

How did you become interested in public health?

After my two homebirth experiences with nurse midwives, I vowed to educate the public in areas of health and wellness. So, I started my health blog at www.clubalthea.com . Soon after my 2nd homebirth, I wrote an eBook on childbirth, newborn care, and women’s health. My recent ebook is about cancer as I have experienced caregiving, hospice care, and death from cancer with both my parents who died of lung and liver cancer. It will help in book sales if I have an MPH after my name and be credible in public as I teach health and wellness and health care policies. I wish to contribute to the future education of health care professionals as I love teaching.

I was a pharmacy technician instructor for about 9 months, passionately teaching students about nutrition, medications, and self-care.

When I was a childbirth educator, I shared my experience with nutrition, homebirth and self-care.

As a technical writer and Quality Assurance in biotech and medical device companies, I am always learning new knowledge about health and medicine.

So, in the future, I see myself working for FDA or CDC or county health hospitals in the area of health care policy writing, administration, and education.

What contributions do you hope to make in the field?

I want to be part of the global team in public health policies, health care administration, and wellness. Writing health care policies and bringing the world to have better health care solutions, health care policies, and health education. There is much to do around public health as the consumers are now becoming savvy but need guidance. I can write well and teach with passion. These skills I will use in promoting public health awareness, writing health care policies, and health care administration.

How will the MPH@GW program help you achieve your career goals?

I learned that GW has so many global communities and graduates and experienced health educators in the area of public health with connections in Washington DC. I plan to work until I am 80 to save more for retirement and have a good pension working in government. This degree will help me protect my retirement savings.

How to ensure baby formula last longer

In the Philippines, it is a practice to boil rice with so much water and use the extra water on top of the rice to be added to the baby formula. This is to use a little baby formula and more rice water soup to save money for moms who can’t express more breastmilk.

In the modern world, the breastmilk pump is only effective for 5 months as the baby sucking is more effective.

New moms must realize that as soon as baby is born, they must suck mom’s nipples in proper position and frequency for continued supply of breastmilk. Ask help from a midwife or lactation consultant or nurse on proper way of breastfeeding.

Using life insurance as business strategies, terms

Applicable federal rates (AFR)The IRS publishes base interest rates each month that are known as the applicable federal rates (AFR). They are used for various purposes under the Code, including being used in imputed interest and original issue discount rules. The AFR is normally available during the third or fourth week of the month.
Collateral assignment split dollar planA collateral assignment split dollar plan is one in which the policy is owned by the insured who assigns it to the employer as security for its interest in the policy.
Deferred compensation planA deferred compensation plan is a nonqualified plan under which additional retirement benefits are provided to selected executives.  The plan may be a “true” deferred compensation plan or a salary continuation plan.
Defined benefit qualified planA defined benefit qualified plan is any qualified retirement plan that is not a defined contribution plan.  The plan is couched in terms of the benefit to be provided the participants rather than the contribution to be made.
Defined contribution qualified planA defined contribution qualified plan is a qualified plan characterized by individual accounts.  It is couched in terms of the contributions to be made for the benefit of the participants.
Endorsement split dollarAn endorsement split dollar plan is one in which the policy is owned by the employer who endorses to the insured the right to name a beneficiary for the death benefits in excess of the employer’s interest.
Executive bonus planUnder an insured executive bonus plan, an employer agrees to pay some or all of the premiums on a life insurance policy owned by an executive.  The employer’s premium payments are deductible to the employer as compensation paid to an employee.  As a result, the premium payments are included in the executive’s W-2 statement, and the executive must include the premiums in his or her income for tax purposes.
Fifth dividend optionThe fifth dividend option is a dividend option in a participating life insurance policy under which an amount of one-year term life insurance equal to the policy’s cash value is purchased each year by application of the dividend.  Any dividend declared in excess of the amount required to purchase the term insurance can be applied under one of the other dividend options.
Funded planA funded plan is a deferred compensation plan to which specific assets are allocated to ensure that the promised benefit will be paid.
Golden handcuffsGolden handcuffs is a term that is sometimes used to refer to a salary continuation plan because of its ability to motivate participating executives to remain with his or her current organization.
Group carve-out planA group carve out plan is an arrangement under which an employer replaces the executives’ group life insurance in excess of $50,000 with individual universal life insurance policies.  These individual universal life insurance policies are owned by the respective executives.
Informal fundingInformal funding means that an asset has been purchased by the employer to help it to meet its obligation to provide the promised benefits under a deferred compensation plan.  That informal funding may be provided through the purchase of mutual funds, the creation of a sinking fund, the purchase of life insurance or by acquiring any other asset that will help enable the employer to provide the benefits that were promised.  Regardless of the informal funding vehicle, for tax purposes, an informally funded plan is considered unfunded because the identified asset is attachable by the employer’s creditors.
Nonqualified planNonqualified plans are benefit plans used by businesses to provide benefits on a selective basis to chosen employees.  The major types of nonqualified plans are split dollar, deferred compensation, executive bonus and group carve out plans.
P.S.58 ratesThe P.S.58 rate table is an age-based table of rates per thousand dollars of one year term insurance promulgated by the federal government that may be used as a measure of the value of insurance protection provided under split dollar plans, qualified retirement plans and tax-sheltered annuities.  It has been largely replaced by the Table 2001 rate table.
Public corporationpublic corporation is a corporation whose shares of stock are readily available to the general public and are bought and sold in the open market.
Qualified planA qualified plan is one that meets certain requirements and, thereby, qualifies for a current income tax deduction for contributions made to it.
Rabbi trustA rabbi trust is an irrevocable trust used to accumulate assets to support deferred compensation arrangements and designed to overcome the concern that a change in company management could place the promised deferred compensation plan benefits in jeopardy.  A rabbi trust, however, contains a provision that the trust assets would always be available to the employer’s general creditors in the event of bankruptcy.  As a result of that provision, the IRS has held that, in the case of a deferred compensation plan whose benefits are secured by a rabbi trust, the participant would have no current taxable income.
S corporationAn S corporation is a corporation that meets certain requirements and elects to have its income taxed to its stockholders rather than to the corporation.  It is a domestic corporation that elects to be treated like a partnership for tax purposes.

Secular trustA secular trust is a trust used to formally fund and secure nonqualified deferred compensation.  Since funds placed in a secular trust are not subject to the claims of the employer’s creditors, they are generally subject to current taxation.
Split dollar planA split dollar plan, when used in an employee-employer situation, is an arrangement under which a permanent life insurance policy is purchased on the life of a key executive, and the premiums and death benefits are split between the employer and the executive (or a third party).
Split dollar rolloutThe term “rollout” refers to the termination of a split dollar agreement, at which time the policy’s cash values are rolled out to repay the employer’s interest in the policy.
Table I ratesThe Table I rate table is an age-based table of rates per thousand dollars of one year term insurance promulgated by the federal government for use as a measure of the value of excess group term life insurance.
Table 2001 ratesThe Table 2001 rate table is an age-based table of rates per thousand dollars of one year term insurance promulgated by the federal government that may be used as a measure of the value of insurance protection provided under split dollar plans, qualified retirement plans and tax-sheltered annuities.  It replaced the P.S.58 rate table.
Traditional split dollar planIn a traditional split dollar plan, the part of the policy premium paid by the employer is equal to the increase in policy cash value each year.
True deferred compensationA true deferred compensation plan is one that is consistent with the common understanding of the term: the participating executive agrees to delay the receipt of a portion of the compensation to which he or she is entitled.  Typically compensation is delayed until the executive retires.
Unfunded planAn unfunded plan is a deferred compensation plan whose benefits are supported by the general assets of the employer, rather than by a specific asset that has been segregated from those general assets.  As such, these assets are attachable by the employer’s creditors.

IT teams in the Philippines speak English clearly

IT consultants and support teams in the Philippines can help you with IT support and training and they speak clear English. Contact Connie at motherhealth@gmail.com

Some US companies have a hard time over the phone and Microsoft Teams in understanding instructions from India. Not clear. One employee has to video it and still cant get it. So, I have to step in and train them in the process, step in adding digital certificate for example. Saved hours.

From Quora.com
When it comes to speaking English, there is simply no competition to Filipinos in Asia. A random Filipino accent could be even sometimes confused for someone from native USA. That is how American it gets. Indian accent not only sounds funny but has quite a few distinctive usage phrases which only Indians can understand and no-one else. That’s the reason globally Indian English and Indian accent is ridiculed ’cause no one is able to understand it. The only consolation I can give is Indians probably have a better vocabulary (talking about educated and urban Indians here) when compared to Filipino counterparts. Filipino usage of some words seemed very weird to me (they say comfort room instead of wash room) and IMHO, they don’t really use a lot of jargonish words. To set the above context in motion, Indians have won too many Booker prizes etc. etc. so I guess writing comes naturally to Indians but not the accent.

Filipina moms

We wished our children are nurses or doctors.

And breastfed them as long as possible

As I did for 18m for my firstborn son and 3 yrs, at night for my daughter

Bless are those with loving children

Who cares for them when they’re sick

We laminate their diplomas in wood.

And proud to adorn our living rooms with their achievements.

We center our lives for them when they’re young

And at times until they have children

We forgo of our time to care for our grandchildren

Making sure that all can afford quality childcare.

We cook even for the exes of our daughters and sons.

We work until we are too old to move to help fund our grandchildren in college

We guard them when they’re young

Ensuring only positive energy at home

Even when we wish to scream

So, at the end we always sing to them before they go to sleep

Rock a bye baby and I love you forever and for always.
