Fast hearbeat sent me to the emergency room

heart health

I salute the nurses and workers at the emergency room of the Valley Medical Hospital in San Jose California.  My heart rate went to 191 at one time with normal blood pressure. EKG results showed poor functioning of my heart’s left atrium. Heart disease runs in my family. Thanks to eating healthy food (pineapple, apple cider vinegar, raw foods, green tea, others), my blood pressure was normal. But my extra 20 lbs weight and other stressors in the past must have caused inflammation inside my body.

I do not want surgery, so I have to find ways to lower my heart rate. Thanks to pineapple, resveratrol and Vit C in my dieatary supplements at ( http://www.gogyv.com enter Connie Dello Buono when ordering or becoming an independent distributor) . Contact motherhealth@gmail.com for more info.

How to Treat Inflammation at its Source, Naturally

Lifestyle changes will go a long way toward reducing chronic inflammation in your body, so focus on making the following changes:

  1. Focus on eating a healthy diet. This includes avoiding pro-inflammatory foods like trans fats, fried foods, sugar and grains, foods cooked at high temperatures and oxidized cholesterol (cholesterol that has gone rancid, such as that from overcooked, scrambled eggs).
  1. Get plenty of animal-based omega-3 fats by taking a high-quality krill oil that is chock full of these beneficial omega-3s. My favorite in this area is krill oil.
  1. Optimize your insulin levels. If your fasting insulin level is not lower than three consider limiting or eliminating your intake of grains and sugars until you optimize your insulin level.
  1. Exercise regularly. Exercise is a great way to lower inflammation without any of the side effects associated with medications.
  1. Quit smoking. Smoking hardens your arteries and increases inflammation. But research shows you can reverse all the damaging effects to your arteries within 10 years of quitting. However, be sure you get your diet under control first so you don’t fall into the trap of trading cigarettes for unhealthy junk foods.
  1. Make sure your waist size is normal. If you’re a woman with a waist measurement of over 35 inches or a man with a waist of over 40 inches, you probably have high inflammation and should take steps to lose weight.
  1. Have healthy outlets for stress and other negative emotions. High levels of stress hormones can lead to the release of excess inflammatory chemicals, so be sure you use tools to help deal with your current stress and resolve past emotional challenges as well. Meditation, prayer and my personal favorite the Meridian Tapping Technique (MTT)are all useful stress management techniques to try out.
  1. Optimize your vitamin D levels. Most people are not aware that vitamin D can have a profoundly dramatic impact on your health.

Your best source of vitamin D is through your skin being exposed to the sun or alternatively using a safe tanning bed. In the wintertime, however, you may need to take an oral supplement. Just make sure you’re taking the right form of vitamin D in the appropriate amounts to reap the benefits, and remember to get your vitamin D levels tested regularly.

Useful Herbs and Supplements to Fight Inflammation

Finally, although they are not a long-term solution, the herbs that follow are useful for treating the symptoms of inflammation and relieving pain while you work at implementing the lifestyle changes above:

  • Boswellia: Also known as boswellin or “Indian frankincense,” this herb contains specific active anti-inflammatory ingredients, referred to as boswellic acids that animal studies have shown significantly reduce inflammation. This is one of my personal favorites as I have seen it work well with rheumatoid arthritis patients
  • Bromelain: This enzyme, found in pineapples, is a natural anti-inflammatory. It can be taken in supplement form, but eating fresh pineapple may also be helpful.
  • Ginger: This herb is anti-inflammatory and offers pain relief and stomach-settling properties. Fresh ginger works well steeped in boiling water as a tea or grated into vegetable juice. Powder capsules are also available, but I recommend using the fresh root.
  • Resveratrol: Resveratrol is a potent antioxidant found in certain fruits, vegetables and cocoa that is emerging as a modern-day fountain of youth. It works by preventing your body from creating sphingosine kinase and phospholipase D — two molecules known to trigger inflammation. The science surrounding this compound is so compelling that it has become one of my all-time favorite antioxidants, and I believe one that shows real promise of health benefits.
  • Evening Primrose, Black Currant and Borage Oils: These contain the essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA), which is useful for treating arthritic pain. It is reasonable for many to take these as a supplement, particularly if you struggle with dry skin in the winter, as this is a strong indicator that you are deficient in these fats.
  • Turmeric, Tulsi and Rosemary: The transcription protein Nuclear Factor-kappa Beta (NfKB) is a major inducer of inflammation, and these three herbs are capable of modulating NfKB.

Alzheimers, Parkinsons and other aging related health issues and Inflammation

Check out your genetic profile at 23andme.com to understand your body and your genetic predisposition to various inflammatory substances and toxins.  Keeping a healthy lifestyle with whole foods and staying away from inflammation are the other factors that shape your health.

Alzheimer’s disease and inflammation

Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible brain disorder that is brought about by inflammatory conditions and substances.  Most of my senior clients have experienced inflammation during their early lives and had been consuming meat such as pork, cheese and other processed foods.

$800 per month rent for a toolshed with no bathroom only in Silicon Valley

toolshed

Perhaps the landlords found a taker. Or perhaps they were shamed into removing their offering of a converted backyard tool shed in Menlo Park for $800 per month.

The rental was listed among the Stanford University classifieds and aptly dubbed “Apartment Sadness” by a writer for Sfist.com.

The digs had no running water or toilet. BUT … the 8×15 space came furnished with a water jug and a commode. And — oh! — the right to use the main house bathroom Friday to Monday.

The real shocker is someone did live there previously. Read more on that here.

But if you missed out on that deal in May, here is another: A Bay Area fellow is renting a tent in a Mountain View backyard for $30 a night.

Renting through the Airbnb, a website that lists “unique places” to rent worldwide, the tent comes furnished with a pillow and blanket. And this landlord allows the tenant inside his home for a hot shower.

And actually, the tent owner explains to NBC Bay Area, the idea sort of started as a joke at $20 per night. But the offers came pouring in … so UP went the rent.

My 18-yr old daughter is saving her money and now has $5k and told me that she wants to help me buy a small house in the bay area.  Anyone who wants to sell/donate their house/land to my non-profit Motherhealth Inc for affordable senior care is welcome to email motherhealth@gmail.com or call me at 408-854-1883.

Selenium, bladder control, anti cancer and prevent osteoarthritis in GOGYV health caps

Selenium

It is a trace mineral that is incorporated into proteins to make selenoproteins, which act as strong antioxidants to help prevent free radical damage to your cells. It is because of its potent antioxidant properties that selenium may benefit:

  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • HIV
  • Cognitive decline
  • Cataracts and macular degeneration
  • Cold sores and shingles
  • Osteoarthritis

How Does Selenium Help Prevent Cancer?

According to the latest research, people with higher selenium intakes had a 39 percent reduced risk of bladder cancer, which is right in line with prior studies that have linked the mineral to lower rates of breast, prostate, lung, colorectal and skin cancer as well.

A 1996 study by Dr. Larry Clark of the University of Arizona also showed just how effective selenium can be in protecting against cancer.

In the study of 1,300 older people, the occurrence of cancer among those who took 200 micrograms of selenium daily for about seven years was reduced by 42 percent compared to those given a placebo.

Cancer deaths for those taking the selenium were cut almost in half, according to the study. In addition, the men who took selenium had 63 percent fewer prostate cancers, 58 percent fewer colorectal cancers, 46 percent fewer lung cancers and overall 37 percent fewer cancers.

Selenium was even found to reduce the risk of lung cancer to a greater degree than stopping smoking.

Some of the scientific explanations for selenium’s anti-cancer effect include:

  • Increased antioxidant protection and immune system
  • Regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis (programmed cell death)
  • Triggering DNA repair in damaged cells
  • Suppression of growth of blood vessels supplying nutrients to the cancer
  • Inhibition of tumor cell invasion

Selenium also plays a role in activating glutathione peroxidase, an enzyme that helps the liver detoxify harmful substances, thereby helping with cancer prevention.

With Selenium, the Dose Makes all the Difference

In the case of selenium, there is a fine line between the amount that is beneficial and the amount that is harmful. A daily dosage between 150-300mcg is generally safe for the average adult, but if your levels get too high it can increase your risk of diabetes and actually becomes cytotoxic (toxic to cells).

If you choose to take a selenium supplement for health maintenance, you should use it in a high-quality bioavailable form, in a low dose (such as 200mcg).

The lower doses are recommended for prevention of disease, including cancer, while higher doses are used for treatment only after cancer is diagnosed. The higher doses are for regulation of cell proliferation by inducing apoptosis (programmed cell death).

In cancer treatment, there is a good evidence base to support the use of significantly higher doses in the correct dosage form — especially the selenium selenite in liquid drops — as part of a well-designed integrative and complementary medicine cancer treatment protocol.

You should only take higher doses of selenium while under the supervision of a competent health care professional who understands the pathway stimulations being induced, and, again, the higher doses should be reserved for targeting cancer that has already been diagnosed.

With selenium it’s important to resist the typical American approach of concluding that if a little is good, even more is better, as this can frequently backfire.

Can You Get Enough Selenium from Food Alone?

Determining the selenium content of your food is tricky because levels are highly dependent on the level of selenium in the soil where the food was grown.

In the United States, selenium levels in soil tend to be relatively high (northern Nebraska and the Dakotas have soil that is especially high in selenium). However, in other areas such as China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, soil levels of selenium tend to be much lower, and if you eat food primarily grown in these areas, a high-quality selenium supplement may be beneficial.

Even parts of the United States have been identified as selenium-deficient regions, including:

The Pacific Northwest

Parts of the Great Lakes region and east of it toward New England

Parts of the Atlantic Coast

If you live in one of these areas and focus your diet on locally grown foods from the region, you may be low in selenium.

On the flipside, if you eat a diet from a variety of regions, including those rich in selenium, you can generally get plenty of selenium from your diet, and thereby get the benefits of the mineral without risking an overdose. Some excellent food sources of selenium include (again, assuming they are grown in ideal soil conditions):

  • Brazil nuts (which average about 70-90 micrograms per nut)
  • Button mushrooms and shitake mushrooms
  • Eggs
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Mustard seeds

11 More Tips to Add to Your Cancer-Prevention Arsenal

Selenium has long been part of my guidelines to help avoid and treat cancer, particularly prostate and breast cancers, but this mineral is only part of my overall cancer prevention strategy. The natural strategies that follow will provide your body with the basic foundational elements necessary for disease and cancer prevention:

Optimize your vitamin D levels. It’s virtually impossible to discuss cancer prevention and treatment today without discussing vitamin D, as the scientific evidence of its anti-cancerous benefits is truly impressive.

Theories linking vitamin D to certain cancers have been tested and confirmed in more than 200 epidemiological studies, and understanding of its physiological basis stems from more than 2,500 laboratory studies, according to epidemiologist Cedric Garland, DrPH, professor of family and preventive medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine.

To find out the appropriate levels of vitamin D for cancer prevention and treatment, please watch my free one-hour vitamin D lecture.

Control your insulin levels by limiting your intake of processed foods, fructose and sugars as much as possible.

Get appropriate amounts of animal-based omega-3 fats, especially those from krill oil.

Exercise. One of the primary reasons exercise works is that it drives your insulin levels down. Controlling insulin levels is one of the most powerful ways to reduce your cancer risks. Please carefully review the Peak Fitness Technique for more detailed information.

Exercise is also an important part of cancer treatment, as Harvard Medical School researchers found patients who exercise moderately — 3-5 hours a week — reduce their odds of dying from breast cancer by about half as compared to sedentary women.

Have a tool to permanently erase the neurological short-circuiting that can activate cancer genes. Even the CDC states that 85 percent of disease is caused by emotions. It is likely that this factor may be more important than all the other physical ones listed here, so make sure this is addressed.

My particular favorite tool for this purpose, as you may know, is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

Only about 24 percent of people eat enough vegetables, so by all means eat as many vegetables as you are comfortable with. Ideally, they should be fresh and organic.

However, please understand that, frequently, fresh conventionally grown vegetables are healthier than organic ones that are older and wilted in the grocery store. They are certainly better than no vegetables at all, so don’t use that as an excuse. If you are a carb nutritional type you may need up to 300 percent more vegetables than a protein nutritional type.

Eat according to your nutritional type. When we treat cancer patients in our clinic, this is in fact one of the most powerful anti-cancer strategies we have.

Maintain an ideal body weight.

Get enough high-quality sleep.

Reduce your exposure to environmental toxins like pesticides, household chemical cleaners, synthetic air fresheners and air pollution.

Boil, poach or steam your foods, rather than frying or charbroiling them. Better yet eat as many of your foods raw as you can.

Number 1: Finland’s educational system allows royal tutoring, high standards of teachers and more support

Fund our public schools in America

But that will mean shutting down mostly traditional public schools, which in Detroit serve the neediest students, and further desert students in neighborhoods where charters have largely declined to go.

Finland

With smaller class size, support like royal tutoring until the child learns to his utmost capability and teachers’s high standards allowed Finland’s educational system to be number one in the world.

In other countries (Puerto Rico, Philippines) including the USA, parents have to spend so much money to send them to private schools or pay extra tutors to provide the needed support or boost for their children to excel in school.

Thirty years ago, when I was a high school teacher in the Philippines, my pay was $50 per month and the class size of the newly opened school is more than 60. With lack of teachers, classrooms and other equipment, we managed during the first year.  Now most of my nieces and nephews in the Philippines were well educated after graduating high school because they all went to private schools where the class size is smaller, teachers are paid more, more equipment and free tutoring for students who are doing poorly. Like the USA, some parents who send their children to private elementary and high schools in Puerto Rico spend an average of $700 per month.  All just to have higher standards of education, more skilled teachers, more equip facilities and equipment from books to more classes and more skills and knowledge for their children.

In the bay area, I am happy that De Anza College where my two children go, can provide the best education in both technical and non-technical areas.  There is financial aid and student loans in the USA allowing those who wanted to finish college to do so while in the Philippines, most of the students rely on being a working student or the money from family and relatives to support their college expenses.

Providing avenues to learn and grow will surely build a more prepared generation to build a stronger country equip with qualified and skilled workers.
