Low folate and virus

  • Folate is a generic term referring to both natural folates in food and folic acid, the synthetic form used in supplements and fortified food. Folate is critical in the metabolism of nucleic acid precursors and several amino acids, as well as in methylation reactions. (More information)
  • Severe deficiency in either folate or vitamin B12 can lead to megaloblastic anemia, which causes fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath. Improper treatment of vitamin B12-dependent megaloblastic anemia with high dose supplemental folic acid can potentially delay the diagnosis of vitamin B12 deficiency and thus leave the individual at risk of developing irreversible brain damage. (More information)
  • Folate status is influenced by the presence of genetic variations in folate metabolism, particularly those found in the 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFRgene(More information)
  • Inadequate folate status during early pregnancy increases the risk of congenital anomalies. The introduction of mandatory folic acid fortification of refined grain products in the US in 1998 has reduced the prevalence of neural tube defects (NTDs) in newborns. Yet, folate status is considered inadequate in a majority of women of childbearing age worldwide. Moreover, genetic factors might modify the risk of NTDs by increasing the susceptibility to folate deficiency during pregnancy. Several studies are currently investigating the role of folic acid supplementation in the prevention of congenital anomalies other than NTDs. (More information)
  • Folate deficiency and elevated concentrations of homocysteine in the blood are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Although folic acid supplementation has been proven effective to control circulating homocysteine concentrations, the effect of homocysteine lowering on the incidence of CVD is still debated. (More information)
  • Low folate status has been linked to increased cancer risk. However, intervention trials with high doses of folic acid have not generally shown any benefit on cancer incidence. (More information)
  • Prospective cohort studies have reported an inverse association between folate status and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk, especially among men. The relationship between folate status and cancer risk is however complex and requires further research. (More information)
  • Folate is essential for brain development and function. Low folate status and/or high homocysteine concentrations are associated with cognitive dysfunction in aging (from mild impairments to dementia). Whether supplemental B-vitamins, including folic acid, will have long-term benefits in maintaining cognitive health is not yet known. (More information)

Drink warm salt water to clean your body

Drinking warm salt water might flush toxins and virus. Others add baking soda and lemon. Some of my caregivers have ginger and  garlic drink. A doctor stayed home and lie down on his stomach and did other holistic preventive and healing ways.

Being in contact with a lot of people and in an environment with a lot of changing of dirty diapers like in nursing homes, predisposes one to all kinds of invading pathogens such as bacteria and virus.

Covid-19 is very virulent that people knows they have to use all kinds of holistic or home remedies before it can get hold of vital organs in the body. A slight throat itch and cough and other signs make everyone so alert that they can either flush the virus now or be intubated, more invasive.

Stop shaking in Parkinson’s with relaxation and stretching

As I coached my client with Parkinson, she relaxes each time I tell her to relax, deep breath and I help her move with ease. Tense muscles make it harder for her to move, stop tremors and relax. Deep breathing and exercises helped her relax. I teached her that her muscles will relax if she relax and do deep breathing. As I help her move her feet on the bed, I add stretching exercises and I press on her joints to help her. I also add leg and foot massage to help her go to sleep.

I treat my clients like my mother, a former caregiver of 18 years in the bay area who died of liver cancer.

Fight virus with bananas, ginger, garlic, kiwi, pineapple, apples and oranges

Virus and bananas

A slightly altered form of a substance found in bananas could hold the potential to fight many viruses, according to new research from the University of Michigan Medical School and Life Sciences Institute, and other institutions. BanLec, short for banana lectin, was first found to have antiviral properties in 2010 – but also caused inflammation. After further research, the team has engineered the BanLec molecule slightly, cracking the “sugar code” that allows sugar molecules on the surface of cells to interact with lectins.

Questions about senior care in facilities or at home

In your house, you can hire a home care agency to coordinate home care to have consistent care where caregivers match your parents home care needs. You have trained and monitored caregivers. Make sure to select and train the caregiver with the physical therapist and medical care team to complement home care with medical care.

Selecting a facility is always best when you see all the features of the facility in person and have seen the foods, dining area and room area. Know what are the limitations and dos and donts in the facility. At times, you might still need a caregiver , for personalized care.

All these choices cost around $30 per hour in senior care and the facility between $10k and up per month.

Be involved in the care team so you can save health and money.
