Get rid of heavy metals in your body

Cilantro
Once called the “poor man’s chelation therapy,” cilantro may help body release built up neurotoxins such as heavy metals. If you’d like to add more cilantro to your diet, try blending up cilantro into smoothies or juices. It also makes for a delicious salsa!

Chlorella
Chlorella is a water-grown algae full of chlorophyll that may also help to reduce heavy metals in the body. However, chlorella may reduce the effectiveness of some medications, so check with your doctor if you’re curious about it.

Infrared Saunas
Unlike regular saunas, infrared saunas raise your core temperature which enhances the metabolic process. By doing so, the sauna has the power to help support natural elimination systems to help release toxins stored in the body.

While avoidance of heavy metals is nearly impossible, there are many things you can do to minimize your risk and further your detox efforts. If you suspect you are frequently exposed to heavy metals in your environment, you should speak with your physician to develop a full detox plan.

California A Grade in Tobacco state control

Urgent Action Is Needed to Protect All Americans from the Harms of Tobacco Use and Secondhand Smoke

Released this week, our “State of Tobacco Control” 2018 report assigns grades to states and federal government on key policies proven to prevent and reduce tobacco use. The report also notes that adult and youth cigarette smoking rates are at historically low levels. However, not everyone in America has benefited equally from this decline. When looking more closely at the data, many Americans continue to struggle with tobacco and nicotine addiction. Unfortunately, these groups are at greatest risk for tobacco-related death and disease and it’s our job to do everything we can to help them.

Everyone deserves the chance to live a full and healthy life. We must do more to reduce the death and disease caused by tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke among all Americans to truly put an end to the tobacco epidemic.

Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in America, killing more than 480,000 Americans each year. More than one in five high school students still use tobacco products, setting them up for a lifetime of addiction.

The American Lung Association’s “State of Tobacco Control” 2018 shows the progress and failures of the states and the federal government to prevent and reduce tobacco use. The report assigns grades based on whether state and federal laws protect Americans from the enormous toll tobacco use takes on lives and the economy. We encourage you to check out the report, and see if your state made the grade.

How Can I Help?

You can help support the public policies proven to protect the health of our nation’s children and prevent kids from starting to smoke. Learn more about the most pressing tobacco control issues in your state by visiting Lung.org/sotc. And most importantly, take action. Let the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services know that he must continue the efforts to fight tobacco use disparities, so everyone can reach their potential and everyone can be protected from tobacco-caused death and disease. Putting in place the proven effective laws and policies called for in our “State of Tobacco Control” report will protect all of us from the harms of tobacco.

We sincerely thank you for your support.

Overcome Erectile Dysfunction for better health and a better sex life

Whether you currently suffer from ED or are hoping to sidestep this condition, try these tips to overcome ED for better health and a better sex life.

  1. Start walking. According to one Harvard study, just 30 minutes of walking a day was linked with a 41% drop in risk for ED. Other research suggests that moderate exercise can help restore sexual performance in obese middle-aged men with ED.
  2. Eat right. In the Massachusetts Male Aging Study, eating a diet rich in natural foods like fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and fish — with fewer red and processed meat and refined grains — decreased the likelihood of ED.
  3. Pay attention to your vascular health. High blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and high triglycerides can all damage arteries in the heart (causing heart attack), in the brain (causing stroke), and leading to the penis (causing ED). An expanding waistline also contributes. Check with your doctor to find out whether your vascular system — and thus your heart, brain, and penis — is in good shape or needs a tune-up through lifestyle changes and, if necessary, medications.
  4. Size matters, so get slim and stay slim. A trim waistline is one good defense — a man with a 42-inch waist is 50% more likely to have ED than one with a 32-inch waist. Losing weight can help fight erectile dysfunction, so getting to a healthy weight and staying there is another good strategy for avoiding or fixing ED. Obesity raises risks for vascular disease and diabetes, two major causes of ED. And excess fat interferes with several hormones that may be part of the problem as well.
  5. Move a muscle, but we’re not talking about your biceps. A strong pelvic floor enhances rigidity during erections and helps keep blood from leaving the penis by pressing on a key vein. In a British trial, three months of twice-daily sets of Kegel exercises (which strengthen these muscles), combined with biofeedback and advice on lifestyle changes — quitting smoking, losing weight, limiting alcohol — worked far better than just advice on lifestyle changes.

We monitor your seniors and caregivers

Motherhealth monitors your seniors and caregivers. During the first meeting we identify senior health care needs and train our caregivers to match them and find healing ways at home. We communicate with other care team members to better facilitate senior needs and daily health status.

We train our caregivers how to massage the seniors and provide matched and personalized in home care based on each senior. Some might need more patience when feeding, need more hugs and calming voice and more conversation. Some would need extra care for their kidneys with healthy drinks and massage.

Some would need gourmet cooking and light housekeeping.

Snapshots of Life: The Birth of New Neurons

After a challenging day at work or school, sometimes it may seem like you are down to your last brain cell. But have no fear—in actuality, the brains of humans and other mammals have the potential to produce new neurons throughout life. This remarkable ability is due to a specific type of cell—adult neural stem cells—so beautifully highlighted in this award-winning micrograph.

Here you see the nuclei (purple) and arm-like extensions (green) of neural stem cells, along with nuclei of other cells (blue), in brain tissue from a mature mouse. The sample was taken from the subgranular zone of the hippocampus, a region of the brain associated with learning and memory. This zone is also one of the few areas in the adult brain where stem cells are known to reside.

Kira Mosher, a postdoctoral fellow in the NIH-supported lab of Dave Schaffer at the University of California, Berkeley, captured this striking image using a confocal microscope. Then, to make it really pop, Mosher used photo-editing software to add a few “oil painting” effects. For her efforts, the micrograph was named a winner in the UC Berkeley 2017 MIC Image Contest.

Images like this one are helping the Schaffer lab pinpoint the locations of neural stem cells and map their interactions with other cells, providing clues to their potential roles in health and disease. The researchers also plan to use CRISPR gene-editing tools to tinker with neural stem cells and learn more about the molecular signals needed for them to function normally.

As scientists gain a more detailed view, the hope is they’ll be in a better position to figure out how to transplant or activate neural stem cells for possible use in brain repair. Such research might lead to new strategies for helping people with stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other conditions in which neurons are lost.

Waist Circumference

Measuring waist circumference helps screen for possible health risks that come with overweight and obesity. If most of your fat is around your waist rather than at your hips, you’re at a higher risk for heart disease and type 2 diabetes. This risk goes up with a waist size that is greater than 35 inches for women or greater than 40 inches for men. To correctly measure your waist, stand and place a tape measure around your middle, just above your hipbones. Measure your waist just after you breathe out.

The table Risks of Obesity-Associated Diseases by BMI and Waist Circumference provides you with an idea of whether your BMI combined with your waist circumference increases your risk for developing obesity-associated diseases or conditions.

Risk Factors for Health Topics Associated With Obesity

Along with being overweight or obese, the following conditions will put you at greater risk for heart disease and other conditions:

Risk Factors

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • High LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol)
  • Low HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol)
  • High triglycerides
  • High blood glucose (sugar)
  • Family history of premature heart disease
  • Physical inactivity
  • Cigarette smoking

Knee pain relief

kneeExercise, good shoes, nutrition (sulfur rich foods) and adequate sleep.

Safer, and very effective, options to help relieve joint pain include:

  • Eggshell membrane: The eggshell membrane is the unique protective barrier between the egg white and the mineralized eggshell. The membrane contains elastin, a protein that supports cartilage health, and collagen, a fibrous protein that supports cartilage and connective tissue strength and elasticity.

It also contains transforming growth factor-b, a protein that supports tissue rejuvenation, along with other amino acids and structural components that support the stability and flexibility of your joints by providing them with the building blocks needed to build cartilage.

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA): Hyaluronic acid is a key component of your cartilage, responsible for moving nutrients into your cells and moving waste out. One of its most important biological functions is the retention of water… second only to providing nutrients and removing waste from cells that lack a direct blood supply, such as cartilage cells.

Unfortunately, the process of normal aging reduces the amount of HA synthesized by your body. Oral hyaluronic acid supplementation may effectively help most people cushion their joints after just 2 to 4 months.

  • Boswellia: Also known as boswellin or “Indian frankincense,” this Indian herb is one treatment I’ve found to be particularly useful against arthritic inflammation and associated pain. With sustained use, boswellia may help maintain steady blood flow to your joints, supporting your joint tissues’ ability to boost flexibility and strength.
  • Turmeric / curcumin: A study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that taking turmeric extracts each day for six weeks was just as effective as ibuprofen for relieving knee osteoarthritis pain. This is most likely related to the anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin — the pigment that gives the turmeric spice its yellow-orange color.
  • Animal-based omega-3 fats: These are excellent for arthritis because omega-3s are well known to help reduce inflammation. Look for a high-quality, animal-based source such as krill oil.
  • Astaxanthin: An anti-inflammatory antioxidant that affects a wide range of inflammation mediators, but in a gentler, less concentrated manner and without the negative side effects associated with steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. And it works for a high percentage of people. In one study, more than 80 percent of arthritis sufferers improved with astaxanthin.

DIY Vapor Rub

DIY Vapor Rub Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup olive oil, coconut oil, or almond oil
  • 2 TBSP beeswax pastilles (level, not heaping)
  • 20 drops of eucalyptus oil (use only 4 drops for use on babies and young children)
  • 20 drops peppermint oil (substitute 4 drops for essential oil for use on babies and small children)
  • 10 drops rosemary oil (omit for use on babies and small children)
  • 10 drops cinnamon or clove oil (optional – omit for use on babies or small children)
  • From wellnessmama

Connie’s comments:

If you want to remove warts, you can use few drops of Tea Tree essential oil.

If you want to avoid insect bugs, you can use few drops of lemon grass essential oil.

My favorite is lemon and eucalyptus essential oil combo.

Both Eucalyptus and peppermint has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

I would use fresh ginger or powder for arthritis. You may add turmeric, although this will add color to your bed sheets or clothing.

I will add Vitamin E oil as skin food.
